Burger Week 2016 Wrap Up!

Burger Week 2016 Wrap Up!

Halifax is definitely feeling the effects of Burger Week, beyond just the strained waistlines. The fourth year running was the biggest Burger Week yet. Across the city, 79 participating restaurants sold a total of 86,746 burgers and hungry Haligonians hopped on the patty wagon.

“It’s always fun. We get a lot of people through the door, so they can see what we’re all about.” said Drew Voegeli of the Burger Week staple, Relish Gourmet Burgers.

All totalled, Burger Week had an impact of over $600,000 on the local economy. People lined up out the door for burger specials, but the bump in customers can last well beyond Burger Week.

Robie St. Station co-owner Kaleigh Burns says, “It was a great week… And we’ve had a lot of return business. Lots of people coming back to check out our regular menu items.”

In addition to the increase in local business, Burger Week restaurants raised $36,269 for FEED Nova Scotia. A cheque presentation will take place at the official Industry Wrap Party on Monday evening.

“Every $2 raised allows us to distribute three meals worth of food to our network of food banks and shelters. It’s huge,” said Karen Theriault, a representative for FEED Nova Scotia.

We have a lot of people to thank, especially, all the participating restaurants who made Burger Week happen.

And thanks to all of you who participated in Burger Week 2016 on social media. With over 10,000 accumulated Instagram posts, tweets, and facebook posts #HfxBurgerWeek trended nationally nearly every day throughout the week! Burger on! A huge thanks to our amazing 2016 Burger Week Ambassadors Colin MacDonald and Chelsey Mock! You guys rocked it!

Thanks as well to our many sponsors. Hop City, for putting up the grand prize. Our media sponsors Q104 and Global, who helped to get the word out. And MINI Halifax, who provided our #MINIBurger car, which gave away nearly 100 free burgers, as well as rides to the winners of our #BurgerValet contest.

And a special thank you to the Burger Squirrel. Hopefully he made it home safe and had a better time than this guy.
